KFC ad: Promoting Stereotype
In this blog I will be sharing my view on how companies are adopting
unethical ways to promote their product and misleading the society by spreading
cheap ideologies, just to gain profit in their business. Companies are so much
desperate to gain profit and promotions that they have forgotten the moral
values and to give respect to the other human.
Last month, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) launched a television
commercial which shows a woman adjusting her breast by looking in tinted window
of a car not knowing that the two young boys who were inside the car started
staring with mouth agape and an older woman looks
on disapprovingly from the driver’s seat. KFC has published this 15-20 second
advertisement on television and on their YouTube channel.
Now, the group named ‘Collective shout’ protested, claiming KFC with
this advertisement has promoted the stereotype ideologies where young women are
treated as sexual object. Through this ad they are telling to the
audience that this is the way you have to act with the women in the society.
Later, KFC has apologized for making this advertisement but question
comes for us, what are we promoting and what we are teaching to our upcoming
generation. Just to stay in market and gain profit, companies are seizing and
ruining the respect, honour and identity of a particular gender.
KFC, as a global leader in fast food sector should have set an ethical
benchmark for other different sector by not taking such unethical way of
advertising which is hurting the sentiments of the society. I want to conclude and
urge you by saying why don’t we stop promoting such stereotype and involve in
promoting or teaching our upcoming generation to give respect and honour to all
gender in all the possible ways.
Great work..... Keep it up

ReplyDeleteYes! I agree with you. Ideaiologies are the strongest force that controls people. Politics, religions, ethics ect..are results of strong ideologies behind it. To enrich the society with good deeds it is essential to develop strong positive ideologies in the society. meanwhile it is necessary to cut off the roots of evil ideologies.....
