Doing business with having personal agenda

Chanda khochhar : not a good example.

People get inspired by many leaders or actors. Some has positive and some leaders has negative impact on society or in individual's mindset. Who you choose to get inspired with, will determine your way of life or sustainability of your success. I want to bring your attention on an individual, named Chanda kochhar, CEO of ICICI bank who was forced by the board of ICICI bank to take a permanent leave due to serious act of corruption done by her.

Before to deal with the issue,we should be aware of major 4 types of corporate corruption -bribery,grease payments, extortion and employee fraud.

The corruption charges on Chanda Kochhar are that she approved bad loans to Videocon and ESSAR group worth Rs.1750 crore who in turn gave business profits to her husband Deepak Kochhar in his fraud business firm.

This is not the first time we had heard about this kind of fraud. With increase in markets, there is potential increase in lucrative opportunities to get involved in unethical business practices. It is crucial for the organisation to create an infrastructure to resist corruption and include behaviour and mindset persistent with strong moral values.Organisation must follow appropriate transparent policies, rules, codes and compliance measures, consistent audits and reviews.Thsy should take correct and strict actions against employees at any level of organisation.

We should not deceive anybody for the sake of false, materialistic glamoured outlook. For having a good future for human kind we must have a good mind set towards society. Greediness, cheating and fooling someone for getting personal benefit are leading people to involve in such crime.

Remember, HONESTY IS STILL THE BEST POLICY WITH REWARDS AND FAME.

KFC ad: Promoting Stereotype

KFC ad: Promoting Stereotype

In this blog I will be sharing my view on how companies are adopting unethical ways to promote their product and misleading the society by spreading cheap ideologies, just to gain profit in their business. Companies are so much desperate to gain profit and promotions that they have forgotten the moral values and to give respect to the other human.

Last month, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) launched a television commercial which shows a woman adjusting her breast by looking in tinted window of a car not knowing that the two young boys who were inside the car started staring with mouth agape and an older woman looks on disapprovingly from the driver’s seat. KFC has published this 15-20 second advertisement on television and on their YouTube channel.

Now, the group named ‘Collective shout’ protested, claiming KFC with this advertisement has promoted the stereotype ideologies where young women are treated as sexual object.  Through this ad they are telling to the audience that this is the way you have to act with the women in the society.
Later, KFC has apologized for making this advertisement but question comes for us, what are we promoting and what we are teaching to our upcoming generation. Just to stay in market and gain profit, companies are seizing and ruining the respect, honour and identity of a particular gender.

KFC, as a global leader in fast food sector should have set an ethical benchmark for other different sector by not taking such unethical way of advertising which is hurting the sentiments of the society. I want to conclude and urge you by saying why don’t we stop promoting such stereotype and involve in promoting or teaching our upcoming generation to give respect and honour to all gender in all the possible ways.

Ethical benchmark : Tata Steel

TATA STEEL : AN ETHICAL INSPIRATION

Hello readers, This blog is dealing with the endeavours of Tata Steel in maintaining its ethics and moral for the transformation of the society and corporations. When the well known business organisations are found guilty and failed in upholding their standard of ethics, Tata Steel is setting a benchmark for the rest of the organisation as it has been recognised by Ethisphere Institute as one of the most ethical company of 2019.

Tata steel, known to be as India's oldest industry established by Shri Jamshedji Tata in 1907. From its initial years, company was focused on the welfare of employees and social responsibility. The values and principles which were leading the company came as company’s code of conduct in 1998. Through this all the employees were guided and motivated to maintain the values, ethics and business principles. The Tata code of conduct was mandatory for the autonomous group companies to leverage on ‘TATA’ as a brand.

One of the senior managers of the company stated that “deciding to implement the Tata code of conduct was not easy for us. We had always believed in ethical practices and we have to make sure that each and every employee of more than 50000 employees practiced the code of conduct. The company also created Ethics counsellor at the senior management level. He must report to the managing director for the day to day functioning of the code of conduct.
Having succeeded in the creation and spreading awareness about the code of conduct of the company by organizing nearly 15 awareness programmes for the families of the executives. The workshops for families were primarily restricted to the senior level management but later introduced to every employee working in the company.

Every month, one ethics coordinator was rewarded on the basis of quality of work. Even the employees are rewarded whenever they show a high moral behaviour. However, the company decided not to make it a part of the performance appraisal system as the management felt that following is a must and who else will not follow the code of conduct or violates the code of conduct, he/she will be dismissed from the company.

So, I want to conclude my blog by saying that the code of conduct is being properly followed in the Tata. We all are aware that ethics is the thing which every company must follow in order to stay in a long race of business. I feel that the Tata’s are doing it with perfection and I hope to see more good things and ethical vibes from the Tata co. and I hope that every company follows ethics as a part of its business.

Thank you for your patience. Do comment your views on the topic.
